We’ve been out multiple times this summer peacock bass fishing without posting any reports. Shame on me. I’ve just been lazy. Miami still is producing great days fishing for these buterfly peacock bass which can only be caught in Ft. Lauderdale or Miami. Oh. Hawaii also if you care to fish for them on your vacation there. Each trip out has seen 15 to 25 fish boated up to four pounds mostly being caught on live shiners. Lure fishing can be hard at times but if you work at it you can catch a few. South Florida is great for all types of fishing so give us a call if you are planning a fishing trip to Florida anytime soon.

The Everglades bass fishing has been good this summer considering the heat we’ve been having. The summer usually brings heavy showers along with a few hurricanes or two to mess up our bass or peacock bass fishing. So far so good, but lets keep our fingers crossed. Here is a nice 5 lb. largemouth I caught last week out on alligator alley which is smack in the middle of the South Florida Everglades. High and hot water is the normal for us which shuts down fishing for a few months until winter cools and lowers our water table. If these conditions hold up we should have a great fall and winter fishing season on Lake Okeechobee and the Everglades. Peacock bass fishing remains good usually through out the year with no exception this year either. We’ve had great trips all summer long.

Our water temperatures were hovering in the 60’s for quite awhile. Now that we are headed into the high seventies the fishing will improve dramatically. This week we landed the 8 lb. bass in the Everglades by Mike Greico and on Saturday March 14th, Jeff Noah and his buddy Al landed 7 peacocks in a half-day trip up to 5 lbs. Each day should be better and better for at least three or four months until we get those heavy summer thunderstorms. On Tuesday Dec. 9, Capt. Victor and I were out trying to see what’s going on in the canals and we landed at least 70 bass in about 4 hours of fishing. Most fish were on the small side with a couple decent keepers up to 4 lbs. Water levels are dropping and the temperature of the water is cooler making the bass respond better than normal for this time of year. Usually we don’t experience this good of catching bass in the Everglades until mid to late March. We landed 7 peacocks up to 4 lbs. which Heather caught holding up in this picture. Each fish was caught using small live shiners in the C-100 canal. The weather has been a little cool lately causing the fishing to slow down somewhat. The winter conditions change each week causing the water temperatures to rise and fall. Peacock Bass love warm to hot water which will provide the best action. Water levels will start to drop soon now that the rain has subsided. The water table has been high for months and usually slows down the fishing for both peacock bass and largemouth bass in the Everglades. Higher water actually helps Lake Okeechobee for bass as long as the wind lays down. Windy conditions will dirty up the lake making it difficult feeding and spawning conditions for the fish. Miami fishing for peacocks will remain good and only get better during the hotter months beginning in March. The water was quite stained with all the heavy rain we’ve experienced in South Florida but I didn’t seem to affect the peacock bass to much. Every fish except my one fish came on small live shiners. Hot weather is usually what these fish like but the temperatures are almost 90 degrees.
